2021 Christmas Appeal | LinkAble

You have the ability to help us refurbish the LinkAble sensory room this Christmas. Helping to create a  modern, up to date facility that will benefit people with learning disabilities for many years to come.

The difference you can make

"When my daughter comes to LinkAble she loves spending lots of time in the sensory room. She is non-verbal with severe learning disabilities and autism, and has high sensory needs. Lights are one of the most stimulating things for her, and a sensory room is both engaging and calming.

We would never be able to replicate this at home and it’s so important for children and other people with disabilities like hers to have access to these facilities. A new sensory room for Linkable would bring so much happiness to the many who use it."

Parent of LinkAble service user, aged nine.

Part of the funds required have been generously donated by a charitable trust and we require a further £5,000 to complete the project so that we can continue supporting the children and adults who come to LinkAble.

Why we need to refurbish our sensory room

This Christmas our supporters can help us complete the refurbishment of the LinkAble sensory room and support children and adults with learning disabilities.

The room is one of the most popular at the Link and is in need of a refurbishment to replace broken and out of date equipment. Although some of the equipment such as our bubble tubes will be cleaned up and incorporated into the new design.

Within the refurbishment we shall be adding new lighting effects such as a LED Wall Wash and a LED Water Cloud projector. Service users will also be able to enjoy an infinity tunnel and vibrating musical wall bumpers.

Benefits of the sensory room

Our sensory room is needed as it can help our service users who have learning difficulties, developmental disabilities or sensory impairments learn to interact with the world around them, but in a safe environment that builds up their confidence and their ability. Service users get an unrestrained, non-threatening space where they can explore at their own leisure. This freedom allows LinkAble staff to see what calms them, rouses them and what they do or don’t like.

Additional Benefits

1. Sensory stimulation
2. Enhance learning through play
3. Improve balance, movement and spatial orientation
4. Develop communication skills
5. De-stress
6. Improve focus
7. Promote socialisation

Take a look at our Christmas Appeal film and share it on your social media. Encourage your friends, family and work colleagues to fundraise or donate and help us achieve our Christmas wish.
