We were delighted to celebrate the completion of our sensory room refurbishment with some of the donors who helped make it happen.
The sensory room is one of the most popular rooms at LinkAble. It gets a huge amount of use daily use, however, it had reached the point where it was due a much needed refresh.
We needed to replace some equipment in the room that had become technically obsolete, along with some broken items, so this seemed like a good opportunity to upgrade and add some new sensory experiences into the room as well.
What's new?
Our refurbished sensory room has seen the addition of new lighting effects, including an LED Wall Wash and a LED Water Cloud projector. There's also an infinity tunnel and vibrating musical wall bumpers.
The sensory room is a vital area in our building. It can support people who have learning difficulties, developmental disabilities or sensory impairments to interact with the world around them in a safe environment that builds up their confidence and their ability.
In our sensory room, people with learning disabilities can enjoy a safe and engaging space to explore at their own pace. Time in the sensory room also helps LinkAble staff to see what calms people, intrigues them and what they do or don’t like.
A team funding effort
Thank you so much to everyone who supported our 2021 Christmas appeal. You raised an amazing £1,190 toward the sensory room refurbishment.

These acts of generosity have enabled us to provide a soothing sensory experience for people in Woking with learning disabilities, now and for many happy years to come.
Attending the opening with representatives from the donors were members of the LinkAble team and Board of Trustees, as well as guests from Surrey County Council, MP for Woking Jonathan Lord and Mayor of Woking Councillor Saj Hussain who did the official ribbon-cutting duties.
